We are excited to welcome Jenna Brenan as new co-owner of J’Adore Dance!
You may know Ms. Jenna as Mrs. MacDonald from the Preschool Recital or Baloo from our Senior Jungle Book recital. Jenna brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our J’Adore Dance staff. Jenna has been enjoying dance since the age of 4. She trained locally in a variety of styles such as jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, and musical theatre. As an adult, she has continued to take lessons, perform, and compete in styles such as hip hop, tap, ballet, modern, jazz and Irish. She has danced on teams with the Edmonton Oilers Boomers and with Scoil Rince Clannad Ceili Club. In fact, Irish dance is where Jenna met, travelled and competed with Ms. Chantel!
Currently, Jenna is a dance specialist teacher with Edmonton Public Schools. She has taught classes to a variety of ages at Victoria School of the Performing Arts and is currently teaching dance at Afton School of the Arts. In 2014, Jenna was fortunate to take the Conceptual Dance Education Training Course with Terry Goetz from the Seattle Creative Dance Center. There, Jenna was inspired to incorporate this philosophy into her school-based dance programs. Later that year, she co-founded Artists on the Gogh inc., a community-based art and dance program for children ages 3 to 8. In January 2015, Jenna joined the J’Adore Dance Team and has loved sharing this passion for dance with the families of J’Adore. She continues to share her love for dance not only with her students but also with her two little boys at home.
And that’s not all….
J’Adore Dance is Expanding!
J’Adore dance is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary and with double digits comes double studios! We are expanding! After 10 years of J’Adore classes growing and thriving we have finally outgrown our current space. It was our good fortune that the space beside us became available this past month and we are pleased to announce that J’Adore Dance will be moving in! There, we will be able to add more of our current parented and un-parented classes as well as adding new programming such as tap and musical theatre and expand our hip hop programming for older children. The new space will also give us the flexibility to add more adult programming to our weekly schedule! All of our programs will continue to follow our J’Adore philosophy of holistic dance in a supportive and non-competitive environment.
Best Wishes Ms. Jessica as Intellidance® Goes International!
This Spring we say goodbye to our founding owner, Jessica Baudin-Griffin. Ms. Jessica has dedicated the last 10 years of her life to building the J’Adore Dance community and programming, but is now ready to devote more time to her family. Ms. Jessica will also be focusing on Intellidance® programming this coming year as she continues to build and expand Intellidance® internationally. Ms. Jessica will rejoin the J’Adore Dance teaching faculty this Fall, focusing on early childhood programs. We are so lucky to be the flagship studio for all of the new Intellidance® programming that she is creating and sharing with other dance educators around the world. With the addition of the new space we are excited to be able to offer more weekend Intellidance® programming!
To accommodate families that wish to have the Creative Jazz Ballet and Fit Hop programs without the recital component and the flexibility of the shorter sessions we have decided to offer two streams of programming: Sessional and Performance Programs.
Our Sessional Creative Jazz Ballet and Fit Hop Kidz will offer the same type of programming and instruction as the full year Performance Programs but the curriculum will not be progressive from September to May or have the recital choreography sections that our Performance Programs do. The sessional program is designed for families who do not wish to participate in recital or wish to try dance on a session-by-session basis. These classes will have in-class parent sharing days and allow parents the flexibility of make-up classes when available.
The Performance Program is a full-year program running from September to May with a winter term recital (February for Preschool classes and March for Kids and Youth). In these classes students will work on three pieces of group choreography throughout the year; Christmas and Spring pieces (for in-class sharing) and in the Winter term a piece for either our preschool or senior recital. Regular attendance for the Performance Program is important for progression through the curriculum as well as development of group choreography. All Performance Program classes will have progress reports at the end of the year.
We are excited to also expand our adult programming welcoming the Edmonton Ceili Irish Dancers to the studio on Tuesday nights. We will also be adding Beginner to Advanced Tap, Advanced Jazz, more fitness and Advanced Ballet with pre-point focus.
Leaders in Dance Education!
Over the past two years J’Adore Dance has also been proudly mentoring young teachers through our Internship program. Through the success of this Internship Program our staff continues to grow as we help to educate dancers in the art of teaching. We are proud to be a professional development center for young dance teachers who wish to learn about conceptual dance education and teaching dance in an inclusive environment. We are please to announce that Ms. Bridget, Ms. Nikol, Ms. Aphra and Ms. Annie have successfully completed the internship program and will be teaching their own classes next year! Ms. Nicole has been accepted into a post-secondary program in Vancouver and we wish her well as she continues to pursue her career. We look forward to accepting new interns for the 2016/17 year. If you know a dancer who is has successfully completed high school and is looking to further their dance education please have them contact Ms. Chantel at firstname.lastname@example.org to apply to our Internship Program.
