My journey into yoga began approximately ten years ago when I started attending drop-in classes at a gym. A remarkable transformation took place, as my sedentary lifestyle and negative self-image gave way to improved physical and emotional health. After several years of practicing, I heeded the call to share yoga with others and enrolled in teacher training with Gaiatri Yoga, one of Western Canada's most respected yoga teacher training programs.

As long as I can remember, I have loved to dance. At age 3, I took my first creative movement class and fell in love with the freedom of expression, the creativity, and the joy I felt while I danced. Dance was something that seemed so natural, so instinctual; it was my body's way of singing.

As I grew older, so did my passion for learning to move my body in new ways. I studied with different teachers and choreographers in the areas of Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Hip Hop, African, Latin, Belly Dance, and Folk Dance. I was in awe of what amazing athletes dancers were, strong and flexible. My love affair with dance continued to grow as I realized it balanced my mind, body, and spirit, unlike anything else I had ever experienced.

Liesa began dancing at the age of 3 at her mother’s studio. It was here that she first discovered her love of movement and dance. Liesa’s sister Vanessa and her niece Kiana also began dancing at the same young age, making three generations of dancers in the family! Liesa trained in many dance disciplines including Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, and Ballet, which remains her first love.

Liesa has been given the opportunity to perform in many dance productions, including the role of Clara in Alberta Ballet’s “The Nutcracker”. Liesa has presented her own original choreography in Dancers’ Studio West Showcase, Dance Explosions. She can still be found helping her mom choreograph dance classes, and rehearsing them in their home studio, also known as the kitchen!

I first began my dance career as a hip hop dancer. I was taught by my mother Nancy Lavorato who used to be the lead coach of the Eskimo's cheerleaders and the Producer and Choreographer of the Miss Canadian Universe pageant. I learned and taught Bollywood Dancing at Sitare Studios while going to school and playing football at the U of A.

Prior to entering the world of parenthood, Melanie was a Chemist working at the University of Alberta. Although her formal education was focused in the Sciences, Melanie's passion is actually working with children. During the summers she attended university, Melanie worked as a Recreational Technician for the City of Edmonton. This experience ultimately led her to find her love of working with children, and gave her the hope of one day becoming a teacher. In fact, after completing her Bachelors Degree in Science, she worked towards a Bachelors Degree in Education. It was also while working at the City of Edmonton that Melanie first met and befriended Jessica Baudin-Griffin.

Music is my passion and using music to teach dance is my privilege. For this reason, I am so very grateful for the opportunity to teach the Salsa Babies program to moms and dads alike. I would like to think that I bring a wealth of music and dance experience to every class I teach.

I have studied music and dance since the age of three. My musical training has been predominately on the violin and piano although, I occasionally dabble on the cello and guitar. Musically, I am a published children's theory book author as well as a regular fiddle instructor and adjudicator at many camps and festivals throughout Alberta. My dance experience ranges from ballet to ballroom and also includes pole dancing for fitness, which I have been involved with since 2006.

Reanna's dance career began at the age of 6 in Slave Lake, Alberta, where she danced non-stop in all disciplines including Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, Jazz, and Tap. Upon graduation, Reanna attended Grant MacEwan College's dance program and returned to Slave Lake to begin teaching.
Three years of teaching in Slave Lake, and another year of teaching in Edmonton, made Reanna realize that she wanted to dance more herself. So she headed to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico to dance at an all-inclusive resort for one year. While there, she immersed herself in the culture, language, and dance techniques offered in the Latin rhythms.

From a very young age dance has woven its way into my life and continues to be an integral part of who I am and what I love to do. I have trained in several forms of dance including ballet, jazz, belly dance, and ballroom. Throughout my training, I have come to appreciate dance as a form of creative art, self-expression, and self-discovery.
Shortly after becoming a new mommy, I was seeking a way to incorporate dance, while also introducing my baby to dance, movement, and music. I found out about Salsa Babies through a friend and it only took one class for me to be hooked! What could be better than dancing with my baby, listening to some sassy salsa tunes, and shedding the baby weight???
